J. M. Coetzee speaks out against "the animal products industry" in The Sydney Morning Herald. The piece is an edited version of a talk he was due to give tonight at Sherman Galleries in Paddington. The exhibition Voiceless: I feel therefore I am runs until 10 March.

I haven't read anything by Coetzee before. Which of his books do you recommend? I don't want to waste my money if his books aren't worth investing in. And I trust your judgment well enough.

No danger. Anything by Coetzee is worth the money.

Possibly my favourite is 'Waiting for the Barbarians'. But his most famous, because it won the Booker Prize in 1999, is 'Disgrace'.

There's also 'The Life and Times of Michael K', 'The Master of Petersburg', 'Youth' and 'Foe'.

I also recommend 'Slow Man' and 'Elizabeth Costello'.
